The owners of this modern property in Ratcliffe-on-Trent in Nottinghamshire asked Leicestershire Garden Design Co. to completely redesign their spacious rear and front gardens as well as their driveway.
We worked closely with our clients over the course of a few weeks to ensure we devised the perfect plan and garden design for their needs and lifestyle. Our design team were then able to display the garden scheme in 3D, so our clients could easily visualise the finished landscape.
In the rear garden, we removed all the existing paving, slate and clay and prepared the groundwork and drainage for new hard standing. We also constructed a boundary brick wall.
Next, we created a patio and seating area from sandstone paving in soft neutral buff tones. Leading from this seating space to another smaller patio, we installed a straight pathway with square stones in contrasting shades. Further gravel pathways were then built running off from the central paved path.
Above the main footpath, we installed two oak pergolas, which will provide the framework to grow trailing plants such as jasmine and rambling roses. Other timber structures were erected in the form of trellises around the edges of the garden to accommodate more fragrant climbing plants.
We also constructed a decked platform in the corner of the garden design to provide further seating space, and next to this we installed an unusual water feature on a bed of gravel. With pump, sump and filter for water volume, this bespoke ‘jenga design’ water feature makes an eye-catching ornament as well as providing the sound of gently running water.
Steel pathway edging was used along the footpaths that cross the garden, creating a divide between the flowerbeds and borders and the freshly turfed lawn. In these beds, we incorporated top soil, mulch, and compost and then planted a variety of shrubs, hedging and trees.
For the front garden, we removed paving from around the house and pathway and lifted and reset some of the existing block paving. We then made preparations for the new driveway base and paving, including the repositioning of drainage.
Using edging blocks to frame the drive, we laid paving to form a pathway around the house and up to the front entrance. We also used block edging to define the circular lawn.
After removing clay where necessary, we introduced top soil, mulch, and compost into the planting areas. Our planting scheme included colourful and architectural shrubs, hedging and trees to give height, dimension and contrasting tones to the garden.
Our clients returned from abroad to find we had completely transformed their gardens and driveway. Their outdoor space is now exactly as they’ve always wanted it to be – fun, stylish and a great asset to their property.
And this garden design will just get better with age. The newly planted beds will soon grow to produce a fantastic blend of colours while the sandstone paths and patio will stay looking pristine and chic. This spacious and comfortable garden design now complements the exterior of the house and the lifestyle of its occupants.
