Robert Ling – Site Manager
Hi, I’m Robert Ling, Construction Manager at Leicestershire Garden Design Company.
As soon as I left school I wanted to get involved with landscaping, as I’ve always loved working outdoors and being able to be creative. There’s no better feeling than transforming a customer’s garden and seeing their reaction when it’s finished.
My first step was to enrol on a course at Writtle College in Essex to expand my knowledge and skills in horticulture and landscaping. The course ran for three years and during that time I undertook work placement for a year and gained plenty of hands-on experience in the job. After three years, I came away with a National Diploma in Amenity Horticulture, and the rest, as they say, is history.
For the next ten years I worked for a company based in Essex and gained considerable experience in landscaping. I was originally employed as a landscaper but soon progressed to team leader and ran various projects across Essex, Suffolk and the outskirts of London.
Over the years, my knowledge and experience of landscaping has grown immensely. I can build anything from a standard patio and deck through to creating a cascading water feature from scratch. I’ve learnt the best way to approach a project, and I know how to deal with any issues that may arise whilst working on a garden. I’m also well versed in interacting with customers and leading a team.
In March 2014, I relocated to the Leicestershire area and was looking for a new challenge, and that’s when I joined Leicestershire Garden Design Company.
There were a number of reasons why I chose to work for LGD. Firstly, as soon as I walked through the door everyone was friendly and welcoming. I felt there was a real energy about what they were trying to achieve in the landscape industry.
Another great thing about the company is that everyone has the opportunity to progress in the business, which is something that’s not always available in many other landscaping companies. Every member of the team shows great pride in their work and aims to provide the best customer service possible.
Within Leicestershire Garden Design there’s a team philosophy that we all have the chance to progress within the company. We all wish each other well and this attitude extends from the top of the company to the bottom.
My own personal achievement has been to progress from being a Team Leader to taking on the role of Construction Manager. This has been a massive challenge that wouldn’t have been achievable without the support I’ve received from everybody at Leicestershire Garden Design.
